First let me just say...Belize rocks!!! Wish we could have been there longer.
The water was so shallow that we could not actually dock. It was such a pitty that we had to ride a nice boat into port...
Chris and I signed up to kayak in an eco-reserve park. Basically, we kayaked in the jungle which was way too cool. We were promised exotic birds, plant life, lizards, fish, and potentially monkeys and crocodiles. Well, honestly we saw great birds, a lot of cool plant life, and two lizards. Oh well. Apparently, the jaguars had been hunting the monkeys so they had recently moved more inland. Although, the featured exhibits were somewhat limited, we still enjoyed ourselves greatly.
This is Chris's "stop taking pictures because you are going to tip the kayak" expression.
There was a great canopy of trees overhead for most of our trip. The river itself was very narrow, which was totally fun. Oh, and the water was a mixture of fresh and salt water so I imagine the fish were pretty cool down there. (we just didn't see any).
Spiney tailed lizard.
At the end, our little river opened up into a lagoon. It was too pretty. We saw two great trees. One of the trees was called a bullet tree. The Mayans used to use the tree bark as ammunition because it was so hard. Our guide swears that if you try to saw it, you will see sparks. I would like to see that. Also, we saw a deadly poisonwood tree. Our guide showed us where the tree was safe to touch and what parts were deadly. Chris and I kept our boat nice and far just in case. It was fascinating really. We also saw many other berries and and plant life that has been harvested for many of our pharmaceuticals.
Can't remember for the life of me what this flower was called, but I loved it. Our guide picked it so that we could smell it's sweet aroma. Oh, it was luscious.
When we got back we were treated to a traditional Belizian lunch. We ate a chicken, rice and beans, and fried plantains. Everything was delicious. This little guy felt the need to stay right next to us in hopes of a little snack.
The eco-park had this beautiful pool on campus with a totally fun slide. Here you can see Chris (hottie with the yellow shorts) getting ready to slide and 0.00002 of a second later, you see his splash below. No really, the slide was slick!
I could definitely see myself living somewhere tropical just so I could try to grow some of this awesome stuff.
Here are a couple pictures of our trip back. I wanted you to see some of the community. Below is the pediatrician's office.
When we got back from our trip we met back up with Dad, Georgie, and BriAna who graciously took Kaleb snorkeling. Kaleb rode on a glass bottom kayak while they snorkeled and he was fascinated by the fish and coral. After we met up, we shopped a little in Belize City. Here we are back on our boat...and Kaleb was clearly done for the day.
Our boat was in view!!!
Later that night, Kaleb became a Tiger in camp.
